Qualification criteria for trip:

•Play the trip music
•Practice the trip music consistently according to Mr. Uyehara’s direction
•Attend after school rehearsals designated for the trip
•Have a good attitude
•Be in good standing with their grades for orchestra class and their other classes

16 September is the due date for registration. Parents/guardians and children need to have a discussion about their commitment to the above criteria. One of the goals of this trip is to give students a travel-performance opportunity to look forward to and to work diligently towards. Based on his work with all of the students, Mr. Uyehara is hopeful that ALL String Orchestra and Chamber Strings students are able to meet the above criteria, and if agreed to, should go ahead and register for the trip. While the cancellation policy was laid out by Mr. Hiyane, please note that he will refund families if Mr. Uyehara determines that the student is not trying or cannot uphold the above criteria. This full refund will only apply under Mr. Uyehara’s discretion, not the parent’s/guardian’s or student’s. Thank you for carefully considering the commitment to go on this trip.

The music for the trip is most suited to Chamber Strings and String Orchestra students. Giocoso Strings students may attend, but they have to be willing to put in the time to learn the music. Please be sure that parents/guardians and students have a discussion about the trip criteria before registering.

The MMS Orchestra Booster Club Officers and Mr. Uyehara are in the process of planning fundraising efforts. It is school policy that fundraising can only apply to the whole group, not individual student accounts. There are trip expenses that need to be covered, including MMS admin fee, cello baggage fee, string bass rental, and omiyage. If we have extra fundraising money after having covered all our expenses, we will discuss with Mr. Hiyane how we can use those funds. We are doing our best to keep the cost of the trip form increasing. In order to keep the $2550 cost, every family going on this trip must participate in fundraising efforts. This does not necessarily mean a family must pay/buy/sell. “Participating” in our fundraising efforts can also mean volunteering time or helping with organization, should monetary contribution be difficult.

If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to send Mr. Uyehara a message through JupiterEd or an email at chad.uyehara@k12.hi.us. Mr. Uyehara is excited for this travel opportunity, and still stand by the goals of giving the students something to look forward to, to work hard for, and to build orchestral family bonds. Thanks again for supporting the MMS orchestras.
